We first create this shortcode:
Code: Select all
 [avnw-search]

Instructions

Go to your WordPress site > wp-content > themes > your-theme > functions.php.

Copy and paste the following code:
Code: Select all
//create a search box with placeholder text and shortcode [avnw-search]
function avnwsearchform( $form ) {

    $form = '<form role="search" method="get" id="searchform" action="' . home_url( '/' ) . '" >
    <div><label class="screen-reader-text" for="s">' . __('Search for:') . '</label>
    <input type="text" value="' . get_search_query() . '" name="s" id="s" placeholder="e.g. about" />
    <input type="submit" id="searchsubmit" value="'. esc_attr__('Search') .'" />

    </div>
    </form>';

    return $form;
}

add_shortcode('avnw-search', 'avnwsearchform');

Enter shortcode in any page or post.
Done.
