How to transfer a domain name to another person

Postby admin » Mon Dec 26, 2016 1:55 pm

To transfer the ownership of your domain to another person, you will need to disable (pause) Whois privacy, unlock your domain and retrieve the Extensible Provisioning Protocol ("EPP") code. You will also need to update the domain Whois information to the new owner and give them the EPP code.

For GoDaddy users:

Procedure
If you are the receiving end, then you'll need to login to your registrar's user account, select "Transfer" from your menu options and once at the transfer page provide the key (EPP code) and pay for the transfer of the domain to your registrar. Fees will depend upon the domain name system level.

After you receive the EPP code or key from the person who, for example, sold you a domain name to you, have paid and filled out the transfer form in your registrar control panel, you will receive an email that will take you to a page where you will complete the domain name transfer:

You will receive another page after successful transfer like so:
Welcome to the Domain Name Transfer/Renewal Interface.
This universal interface is intended for the use of domain name contacts in approving or rejecting a domain name renewal/transfer (ICANN registrar) requests.
Transfer Information

Attention: tea@gmail.com
Re: Transfer of my-domain.com on 12/27/2016 7:51:34 AM for us to become the new registrar of record.

You have received this message because you are listed as the Registered Name Holder or Administrative contact for this domain name in the WHOIS database.

Please read the following important information about transferring your domain name:

You must agree to enter into a new Registration Agreement with us. You can review the full terms and conditions of the Agreement at this link
Once you have entered into the Agreement, the transfer will take place within five (5) calendar days unless the current registrar of record denies the request.

Once a transfer takes place, you will not be able to transfer to another registrar for 60 days, apart from a transfer back to the original registrar, in cases where both registrars so agree or where a decision in the dispute resolution process so directs.

If you WISH TO PROCEED with the transfer, you must respond to this message via the following method (note if you do not respond by 1/3/2017 7:56:02 AM, my-domain.com will not be transferred to us.).

Approval Information

Thank you, your response has been recorded.

Delays
Apart from unlocking the domain and initiating the transfer process, there is a release transfer stage. As per ICANN it usually takes 5-6 days from the moment you approved the transfer via email from the new registrar.

If the domain holder has an account with GoDaddy.com, he can just go to his account and accept the transfer at this page: https://dcc.godaddy.com/dcc50/default.a ... ransferout
