What is an Inline Element?
"Inline" elements or "block-level" elements are usually HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) elements accompanied sometimes with CSS elements. An inline element occupies only the space bounded by the tags that define the inline element. The following example demonstrates the inline element's influence:

Code: Select all
<p>This <span>span</span> is an inline element; its background has been colored to display both the beginning and end of the inline element's influence</p>

Code: Select all
span { background-color: #8ABB55; }

You can use your browser's Inspect Element feature, or using a tool like This message was hidden, please register or login to see message!, to inspect the code structure of your site, this allows you to locate the element you wish to modify and view the classname(s) you can use to add custom CSS code.

Upon inspection with any web development browser tools (e.g. the Inspect Element (Q) on FireFox) 'inline' elements usually refer to theme variables that are editable in the WordPress Admin panel > Customize module.

For example, this code to change the color of the text content in posts reads with a browser inspector:

Code: Select all
element {        inline
     color: #767676;

And see here in the screenshot, the section inside the admin panel that deals with post content colors.
